Caroline is no more. After leading a troubled life she has accepted an offer of a chance to ‘wipe the slate clean’. Caroline has become ‘Echo’ who is an ‘Active’ in the Dollhouse. The Dollhouse has the ability to reprogram its actives time after time for paying customers who require special services to be carried out for them.
Echo is programmed as a hostage negotiator but when it turns out that part of her proile came from one of the kidnapper’s former victims things start to go wrong.
The Dollhouse is a sort of urban legend and FBI agent Paul Ballard is determined to track it down with or without the help of his cynical bosses.
